Anne comes from a family of crafters, artisans, and makers of handmade goods, starting with Grandma Mary who was an accomplished oil painter and Grandpa Bob, who was a stained glass hobbyist. Together they did all the midwestern art shows every summer and eventually owned Traverse Bay Arts and Crafts in old town TC. Growing up in a small town, Anne's grandparents were well known in the community for teaching stained glass and toll painting in their downtown shop. Anne's parents carried on the tradition of owning a business based on a hobby, and the Stained Glass Cabinet Company was her parents labor of love. At one point there were 5 different locations in northern Michigan where you could shop for one of a kind, handmade furniture and decorative glass!
The tradition of craftiness and business acumen has continued, and let's be honest, gained speed and ability with the next generation of Smith makers! Sadie Smith, along with her twin sister Lucy Smith, are Anne's nieces and by the age of 14 had started her own small business selling handmade adorable "grumpy" squishies! She makes all kind of squishies, which you can find on her website, etsy, pinterest, or in local craft fairs around Traverse City. Look up Grumpy Cuddles and you'll find Sadies one of a kind handstiched cuteness!
For Sunny Honey Company, she has made a custom line of squishy bees. Some are grumpy, some are happy, some are just downright adorable! We usually hang these in our store for sale but we finally have enough to sell online! THEY ARE SO CUTE!!
